Background

Easter Seals Colorado is a non-profit organization that serves people with disabilities. One of the programs operated by Easter Seals is Rocky Mountain Village (RMV), a year round recreational camp that serves children and adults with disabilities and their families. RMV runs summer camp and year round Respite and Family Education Weekends. Due to demand, Easter Seals Colorado needs to expand programs to be able to offer leadership weekends and summer weeks to more individuals with disabilities. The Lodge and all other housing buildings are at capacity and are inadequate to meet current needs.

It is time to turn this aging lodge into a multi-use facility that is totally accessible and family friendly. As the cost of operating our programs continues to rise, we find that many individuals with disabilities and their families are unable to contribute financial support for the services they need. To offset these fees we rent The Lodge to outside groups for off-season stays, banquets and lodging.

The Lodge has the highest potential to generate revenue and become self-sustaining during the off-season. Currently the lodge is 4,140 square feet, sleeps 30 people and offers only two bathrooms. The remodel and expansion is required for us to offer quality programs, as well as lodging and conference facilities. The increased revenues will allow us to keep our programs affordable to individuals with disabilities and their families.

Plans

The project will increase the structure to 8,200 square feet and almost double our lodging capacity from 30 beds to 53 beds and from 2 bathrooms to 9 bathrooms. The basement will be expanded and converted to a much-needed conference area.

The added space will allow for:

  • Increasing services to those with disabilities from 800 campers to 1,000 campers during the summer months
  • Expanding programs to families during summer and winter months
  • Developing family camps
  • Providing services to additional groups such as seniors and couples
  • Ensuring interior access to all users, regardless of their disability
  • Providing added meeting space
  • Accommodating a more diverse and expanded constituency
  • Increasing staff housing
  • Developing a more energy efficient program site
  • Creating a center for off-season rentals that has the potential to generate revenue for mission driven programs

The building phase of the Lodge Capital Campaign is currently in full-swing.  Click here to see the progress we are making.  Check back often to see how the Lodge begins to take shape!
